Babysitting

The Middle School Youth would like to give the gift of their babysitting expertise to provide busy parents with an afternoon of rest & relaxation, holiday shopping, baking, etc.  Children may be dropped off in the Mattie Bell Building between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 4.  If you would like to pre-register your child(ren) please contact Sheila Hensley at Sheila.hensley@sas.com or Stacy Potratz at spotratz@nc.rr.com.

Sponsor a “love light” on our Christmon tree in honor of or in memory of a loved one.  Order forms are located in the pew pads and may be placed in the offering plate.  All proceeds will be used to help fund worship & altar guild supplies.  Orders  must be received by the church office no later than December 11.
 
The Young Disciples Sunday School Class is collecting donations for the Robeson County Christmas Store.  You may drop new, unopened toys in the collection box in the Narthex or you may make a monetary donation and let the Young Disciples do the shopping for you.  All donations must be received by Sunday, December 4.
 
Looking for a special Christmas gift?  Joe Lupton’s “Christmas by Candlelight” & “A Time of Centering” CDs are available for sale.  The cost is one cd for $15 or two for $25.  Please see Joe after the worship service if you are interested.
 
The United Methodist Women’s Christmas Tea will be held this Saturday, December 3, in the Fellowship Hall from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $12.00 each. Please call Beth Sawyers for details at 971-1188.

Interested buyers will need to purchase their tree or wreath voucher from one of the scouts and then take it to one of 3 Shepherd’s Way Tree lots where they may pick out a tree or wreath. For each voucher sold a portion of the proceeds goes directly to the scout troop. The cost for any tree up to 7′ is $60 and wreaths are $14. Boy Scout Troop 364 will again be selling Christmas trees and wreaths as part of their fundraising efforts for their scouting programs.
 
 They will partner with Shepherd’s Way Trees to offer everyone fresh and great quality products. Interested buyers will need to purchase their tree or wreath voucher from one of the scouts and then take it to one of 3 Shepherd’s Way Tree lots where they may pick out a tree or wreath. We’ll be decorating the church for the Advent season next Saturday, November 26, starting at 10:00 a.m.  Everyone is welcome to join us as we deck the halls for the holiday season!

PGUMC Preschool would like to open a second Toddler Class in January. The class will be for children 18 to 28 months old and will be held on Wednesday & Friday mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. For more information or to register your toddler please contact Cathy Anderson at 787-1652 or cathy.anderson@pgumc.org. Please note that we will need at least 6 children enrolled to begin the class.

 There will be craft activities for all ages including an Advent wreath, Christmas ornaments, and holiday decorations.  A light dinner will also be served.  Volunteers are needed to help with the event.  If you’d like to help please contact Jennifer Daft at 781-7991.  Everyone is invited to participate in our annual Advent Workshop.

Our annual Charge Conference will be held this Monday, November 14, at 7:00 p.m. at Soapstone United Methodist Church.  Administrative Council members are voting members of the Charge Conference and are encouraged to attend.
     
Everyone is welcome to join us as we gather with other faith communities on Tuesday, November 22, at 7:30 p.m. here at Pleasant Grove for the annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service.  A monetary offering will be collected for Urban Ministries and a canned goods offering will be collected to benefit the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.

 The ARC of Wake County partners with adults with disabilities to help them achieve their life goals. Over the past few years, PGUMC has supported this program through Christmas gift adoptions. If you would like to adopt one of these adults, please see one of our Outreach Committee representatives today in the Narthex.

All men of the church are invited to the men’s monthly breakfasts on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7:30 a.m.  Beginning this month, on November 15, the men’s breakfast gathering will be held at the McDonald’s located at the corner of Glenwood Avenue and Millbrook Road.  For more information please contact Tom Hall at 787-0346.

Chili & Cornbread Cookoff, this Wednesday, November 9, 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.  Please join us as the United Methodist Women & the United Methodist Men face off with a chili & cornbread cookoff.  There will be 6 varieties of chili and multiple types of cornbread for you to sample and vote on.  Freewill donations will be accepted.  Invite your friends and neighbors!

Salvation Army Christmas Stockings will be distributed by the UMW on Sunday, November 13.  The stockings will need to be filled with gifts for needy children and returned to the church by Sunday, December 11.  Please contact Lois Munford at 787-2450 for more information.

As cold and flu season approaches, please remember the guidelines for our nurseries and children’s Sunday school classes.  For the health and safety of all of our children, nursery staff, & teachers, please keep your child at home if he or she is sick, running a fever, has an upset stomach, or diarrhea.  Also, please encourage children to wash their hands frequently to help prevent spreading germs.
