Welcome home!
Welcome to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church! Finding a new church home can be challenging. We strive to make it as easy as possible to come, feel welcome, and get as involved as you wish to.
We are glad you are checking us out. Click around and get a sense of us, and then come on Sunday to any of three services. One of them probably is just what you’re looking for.
We like to think of ourselves as a new old church. People have been coming to PGUMC since the 1850’s, so clearly we are an old church. But in many ways we are a new church: our membership and our facilities have grown rapidly in recent years. This year we added an assistant pastor.
We’re young in other ways as well. The youngest members fill the front of church during children’s time at the 8:30 and 11 services. Our Sunday School classes are full. Our youth groups, which begin as young as third-graders, are doers, supporting each other and working on mission projects.
What is worship service like at Pleasant Grove?
The best way to find out is to come join us on Sunday. We have traditional services at 830 am and 1100 am on Sundays, and a contemporary praise service at 9:45am.
Take a look at a sample order of worship and see if it’s something you are interested in! If you have questions, feel free to contact the PGUMC office at office@pgumc.org. We’d love to talk to you and answer any questions you have.
If nothing else, you will leave with a loaf of bread as a reminder of your first visit and hopefully a few names and faces of people on a similar journey. We’d love to have you.
What about young children?
Bring them! We have a thriving youth congregation ranging from nursery age all the way through high school. During the worship services, we offer a nursery, free of charge, for children through 2 years of age.
About midway through the service, we have Children’s Time, where we welcome visitors, offer birthday treats for the community, and a brief, engaging message for the children. Usually 20 children participate at Children’s Time at the 11 am service, while at least a dozen participate at the 8:30 service. Afterwards, you have the option to allow your children to go with the other kids to Children’s Church in the rooms nearby the sanctuary. If you opt to keep your kids with you, they are welcome in the sanctuary during the remainder of the service as well. Whatever works for you.
What if I don’t know anybody?
Most of us started out that way! During the service, we have a time to stand and greet those sitting near you. A smile, handshake, or hug go a long way to breaking the ice and getting to know people. Go at your own pace!
Can visitors participate in Communion?
Absolutely. All are welcome. All. Yes. Even you.
